American Tenor Thor Gesteland has just returned from
Harbin, China
where he was invited by the Chinese Ministry of Culture to perform two concerts on August 8th and 9th, 2006 along with Maestro Thomas Jaber and Soprano Jia Li (view pictures). Thor and Maestro Jaber are proud to be the first american musicians ever to perform in Harbin, China. Thor is a winner of the MET Competition Liedertafel and
Arline Johnson awards and was praised in the Chicago Sun-Times as " ... the powerful Thor Gesteland ... " for his performance of Jim in Light Opera Works' Rose Marie by Friml in
Chicago. He broke into the Chicago opera scene starring as Rodolfo in l'opera piccola's production of La Boheme. Since then he has starred in other l'opera piccola productions such as
Le Nozze di Figaro and Falstaff. He has sung in mainstage and dinner theatre productions for Light Opera Works as Karl Franz in Student Prince and Jim in Friml's Rose Marie
, and sang one of his favorite roles, Nadir, in Pearl Fishers with Milwaukee Opera Theater. He has soloed with the Lake Shore Symphony Orchestra, The
Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra,the City Symphony Opera Orchestra of Chicago, The Business Men's Orchestra and The McDowell Artist's Association Orchestra. Thor has been the music director at
Terrace Chapel in Houston for over 3 years, currently sings with the Houston Grand Opera Chorus, has sung with the
Lyric Opera of Chicago Chorus, and has sung for thousands of children with Opera for the Young. He was also invited to sing on Art Norman's Italian segment for Chicago's NBC, Channel 5. |
